Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) will begin preliminary construction activities on April 8, 2023, in preparation for the construction of a new, 350-seat theater at Estancia High School. 

Starting Saturday, April 8, the north parking lot near the tennis courts along Placentia Avenue, where the new theater will be constructed, will no longer be accessible. Staff, students, parents and visitors will be able to park in the other parking lots noted on the attached project flyer.

During Spring Recess (April 8-16), the south student parking lot also will be unavailable to allow for re-striping the parking lot and have it ready for the return to school on Monday, April 17.

Preliminary construction activities include mobilization of equipment, potholing, site survey, demolition of existing site elements, and installation of temporary construction fencing. More prominent construction activities are expected to begin in late spring, with anticipated project completion by the end of 2024. 

The new theater will include 350 seats, a black box, lobby, box office, dressing rooms, scene shop, costume and prop storage spaces, new hardscape and landscaping, and a new drop-off lot.
