Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education Elects Top Positions

At the annual organizational meeting on December 13, Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) trustees elected Karen Yelsey as president, Vicki Snell as vice president and Charlene Metoyer as clerk. Their new roles took effect immediately and will continue through the next organizational meeting in December 2017.

 

President Karen Yelsey has been a member of the NMUSD Board of Education since 2006 and represents the Corona Del Mar area. She will serve on the Newport Beach Youth Council, Visual and Performing Arts Committee, Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, School Attendance Review Board, and the Wellness Advisory Committee.

 

Vice President Vicki Snell was elected to the NMUSD Board of Education in 2014 and represents the Costa Mesa area. She also was elected to serve on the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, Costa Mesa Youth Sports Council, Office of College and Career Education/CTE Advisory Council, and serves as the legislative representative, political action representative for the Orange County School Boards Association, and as liaison for the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation.

 

Clerk Charlene Metoyer was elected to the NMUSD Board of Education in 2014 and represents the Costa Mesa area. She also was elected to serve on the Newport Beach Youth Council, School Attendance

Review Board, Costa Mesa Youth Sports Council, and serve as the (alternate) legislative representative, political action representative for the Orange County School Boards Association, and the Visual and Performing Arts Committee. Ms. Metoyer also serves as liaison with the Special Education Community Advisory Committee and the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.

 

In addition to the Yelsey, Snell, and Metoyer Past President Dana Black, Martha Fluor, Walt Davenport and Judy Franco will continue to serve as board member representatives on various committees. Past President Dana Black was recognized by the Board with a commemorative plaque for her dedicated leadership the past year.
