About Rea Preschool
Classrooms are set up following the criteria established for the highest (Excellent) score on Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ECERS-R) rubric,as well as according to the developmental and special needs of the children. We utilize several curricular programs, including the Hampton-Brown Avenues (a Pre-K Language Development Program) Houghton-Mifflin Pre-K (a Pre-K early literacy and cognitive development program), and Second Step (a social-emotional skills program), to help all children develop the skills listed in the Desired Results Developmental Profile-Revised.
Children learn the concepts and skills in the curriculum through time each day engaged in:
Large group “Meeting Time” and “Circle Time” on the carpet (calendar, music and movement, alphabet activities, and other activities)
“Story Time” in large group or small group
Independent Exploration at Learning Centers (with adults facilitating conversations with children about their activity)
Small Group Activities Guided by Adults at the Learning Centers
Outdoor Gross Motor Time
Clean-Up Time (children are involved in clean up of centers and the classroom in order to learn responsibility and organizational skills)
